Matthew Sorel-Cameron BA (Phil) (Lond)


Matthew read philosophy at University College London before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of East Anglia, and the Bar Vocational Course at City Law School (formerly ICSL) where he was graded as Outstanding.

 

During his time in Norwich he worked as a volunteer Generalist Advisor at the Norwich Citizens' Advice Bureau.

 

As a member of Middle Temple he has been awarded the following scholarships:

  • Harmsworth Scholarship (2008)
  • Benefactors Scholarship (2007)

Matthew joined Chambers in November 2010 following the successful completion of pupillage under Recorder Bryan and Deputy District Judge Pigram.

 

Civil

Matthew appears regularly in the region's County Courts.  He accepts instructions on a range of civil matters as an advocate and in an advisory capacity.

 

He has particular experience in contractual disputes involving small to medium businesses, insolvency and housing.

He also has recent experience of representing clients in negligence claims.

 

Some recent cases

M v B and ors, Norwich County Court : Recently instructed on a multi-handed multi-track personal injury claim which eventually settled on the day of trial.

 

S v A, Colchester County Court : Instructed on a successful claim in negligent misstatement made by an employee against their former employer.

Criminal

Matthew appears regularly in Magistrates' Courts throughout the region, and has quickly begun to build a Crown Court practice.  Aside from his criminal defence work, he regularly accepts instructions to represent the Crown Prosecution Service, the Probation Service and Local Authorities.

 



Interests

Matthew fenced competitively in the UK and abroad while at school and has in the last few years taken up the sport again.  He enjoys listening to a wide variety of music.
