Alan Wheetman LL B (Lond)

Alan Wheetman is a specialist criminal law practitioner who has worked in the Criminal Justice System since 1975, both in the public and private sector. In 1995 he was called to the Bar and joined Chambers shortly thereafter. Since that time he has worked for both the prosecution and defence and is happy to accept instructions for cases in the Magistrates and Crown Courts (though, not Fraud).

His reputation as a no-nonsense, down to earth, plain speaking advocate who does not skirt around the issues attracts a wide and varied caseload.  As well as his work at the Bar, Alan is an established Consultant in Advanced Hypnotherapy. As such, he is often instructed to represent nervous, vulnerable, or difficult clients - especially in cases involving mental illness or child witnesses.  Alan's skills in this field and common-sense approach often see him instructed in matters of domestic violence where emotions on both sides of the argument can run high.

Since the broadening of traffic legislation, Alan is regularly called upon to defend on the instruction of insurance and haulage companies where the lay client is in jeopardy of losing their driving license and sometimes their liberty.  He has recently been involved in Crown Courts around the country representing drivers charged with causing death by dangerous or careless driving with some notable success.

Alan also receives instructions from solicitors and a number of recognised bodies, including the RSPCA and Trading Standards Departments, to both prosecute and defend cases under animal welfare and dangerous dogs legislation. It was Alan who successfully prosecuted a Norfolk farmer, on behalf of Norfolk Trading Standards Department, in what a senior vet declared as the worst case of animal neglect he had seen in a career spanning almost three decades.

Whether it is a trial of a serious sexual or violent nature, or a quick motoring plea down the Mags, Alan assures his clients of the same dedication to the case in hand.

Readily approachable; Alan is happy to discuss and advise on the progress of a case at all stages of the proceedings.

Following authorisation from the General Council of the Bar, Alan is now able to receive instructions directly from lay clients under the Public Access Scheme.
