Andrew Nicklin

BA (History) (Bristol); LL B (College of Law)

Having trained for the Bar at The College of Law (LLB, 1st Class), Andrew joined chambers following successful completion of pupillage in September 2011. As a junior member of chambers he accepts instructions in all areas of chambers’ practice, with a particular interest in civil litigation and employment law.  Andrew handles small claim and fast track matters through to trial and frequently appears in county courts across East Anglia and London dealing with a wide range of applications, including claims allocated to the multi track.  His civil practice encompasses contractual and commercial disputes; road traffic accidents – including advice on both liability and quantum; infant settlements; possession (with particular experience in mortgage possession both pre and post eviction); winding up and bankruptcy petitions; property and land; injunctions (with experience in applications under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997); housing disrepair claims and enforcement (including Judgment Summonses).  He is also instructed to advise in writing and in conference in a range of these civil practice areas.  Andrew is happy to advise and represent clients on appeal and, where appropriate, on a CFA basis.

Andrew is developing a practice in employment law, primarily with a Claimant focus.  He is available for advice, drafting and representation at employment tribunals and beyond.

In criminal matters, Andrew is regularly instructed to prosecute (both for the CPS and privately for local authorities) and defend in all forms of hearings in the Magistrates’ and Youth Court.  He is currently a Level 1 CPS Panel Advocate.  In the Crown Court, Andrew is regularly instructed by the CPS in appeals against sentence and conviction and is developing a trial advocacy practice.  He has also recently been instructed to represent a local authority in respect of public interest immunity arguments arising from a third party disclosure application in the Crown Court.

Andrew accepts instructions in all areas of family law with particular experience in private law proceedings.

Prior to coming to the Bar Andrew read history at the University of Bristol before qualifying as a teacher at the University of Warwick. He taught history and politics at a large comprehensive school in North East London for two years and remains actively involved in the education sector.  He is available for talks and seminars concerning training and careers at the Bar.  All such requests should be directed to Andrew via the clerks’ room or directly by email to andrewnicklin@ealaw.co.uk.
