Peter Coe LL B; LL M (Northampton)

(Door tenant)

Whilst at East Anglian Chambers Peter enjoyed a mixed practice. His criminal practice provided him with experience of acting for defendants and regularly prosecuting on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service, Department for Work and Pensions, Probation services and the Child Support Agency.

Peter’s civil practice was both court and paper based. He advised on and acted in claims involving personal injury, negligence, bankruptcy, consumer credit, credit hire; breach of contract and possession proceedings. Peter was also instructed in family proceedings, including public and private children cases.

Peter subsequently taught at the University of Nottingham and is now Senior Lecturer in Law at Buckinghamshire New University, where he leads Criminal Law, Criminal Justice and Evidence and Criminal Procedure. Peter is also involved in teaching Law of Tort, Medical Law, Sports Law and Professional Legal Skills.

In addition to the areas above, Peter’s academic research interests include Media Law (in particular defamation, developing Privacy Law, super-injunctions and the effect on freedom of expression) and the impact of corporate responsibility on corporate governance.

Despite now enjoying a full-time career as an academic lawyer, Peter maintains his links with the profession and his former practitioner colleagues through his academic/non-practising door tenancy with chambers.
